Day 1 - Liverpool to Copenhagen

Day 1 - Liverpool to Copenhagen

I had a fantastic time with my grandparents - it's always great to see them. I certainly could not come all the way to Europe without popping in for a wee bit (getting my British vocabulary on). My grandad dropped me off at the Liverpool airport, appropriately named after John Lennon. Of course, it was pouring with rain - surprise, surprise. England had to remind me of its miserable and cold weather.

I checked in without a problem and boarded Norwegian airlines (started in the early 2000s) and with a new route from Liverpool to Copenhagen which started in April. My ticket including luggage was less than $80 USD so I could have been on the wing as long as I got there. The plane was completely empty - practically every person on board could have had their own row.

The approach into Copenhagen was beautiful - you turn over the water and follow a line of wind turbines to the runway. Immigration was a piece of cake - stamp your passport and move on. I met Margo at the baggage claim and we hopped on the train to our hotel.

Our hotel is in the center of town - less than 2 blocks from the central Copenhagen station. Our room was on the 4th floor (5th floor to the US) with the twin beds facing each other.. very European.

Margo was amazingly still awake, so we spent the afternoon walking around Copenhagen. We strolled through the streets to the canals called Nyhaven - the picturesque colored buildings with the boats in front. We had lunch by the canal and celebrated our arrival with a Danish beer for Margo and a blackberry beer for Fiona. We strolled back down the Stroget (the main shopping street) and Fiona got her token Christmas ornament. We also had to go into the Lego store - they had some amazing builds of the Copenhagen well-known buildings.

That evening we retired early to our loft among the rooftops of Copenhagen. We slept extremely well that night!
